We need more prosecutors like this

Our criminal justice system could learn from Hudspeth County Attorney Kit Bramblett

He said "‘Between me and the sheriff, we threw out enough of it or smoked enough so that there’s only three ounces, which is within my jurisdiction.’

Play on, Willie!

I liked one of the comments which said that if he'd been a bricklayer, would he have got off with laying a few courses around the place? ;0)

And what if he'd been a colonic irrigation therapist, Scrobs?!

Willie himself suggests it is not the business of legislators to outlaw a flower created by God. I'm with him on that :-)

Lilith, do you really think we need more prosecutors who give special treatment to people they like? Do we really need more prosecutors who don't believe in equality before the law? Seriously, is that going to make the world a better place?

No, Andrew, I think we need more prosecutors who think sending an old man to gaol for smoking weed is nonsense.

I can certainly agree with that Lilith. The problem is that Nelson only got away with it because he's famous. An ordinary old man would have gone to jail. That's what stinks about this case. The law should apply equally to everybody and not just to the little guy, and a prosecutor should not conduct his cases on the basis of whether he happens to like the defendant.

I don't know that about the prosecutor, Andrew. For all I know he was using this case to flag the stupidity of the law. I don't know that he isn't lenient with all weed cases. Six ounces is a lot of weed to count as personal use, even for Willie.

Does this set a legal precedent? Imagine if Colonel Sir Geoffrey Lawrence had got that nice Mr. Hitler up before him… because he did bang out some smashing watercolours of Munich.

... what ho Lil gal.

Modo! Hitler's watercolours hardly compare to Willie's oeuvre. But it could happen.

How are you, my strange and fascinating friend?
