Lilith's Movie Recommendations #1 in a very occasional series

Stumbled across this movie trailer, for an EXCELLENT film, The Petrified Forest. The trailer is good in it's own right but it doesn't do the film justice. It really is griping stuff. Recommended for a long winter night.

This is the sort of thing Mother Idle forces me to watch with her in Somerset.

Stagey stuff. Good to see the young Bogey had already perfected that famous movie voice of his, and Leslie Howard was quite good, if slightly iffeminate.

But I think I'll watch the Blues Brothers for the 100th time instead.

Oh Idle! Blues Bros is fun, but so is this. It IS stagey, the whole plot takes place in the garage/diner. Howard is not likeable in this film but his performance is splendid. There is a moment when Humph realises the game is up which makes the whole movie. Perhaps it's a chick flick?

Pre 1960 chick flicks are acceptable. Wierdly (sic) enough I saw Drew Barrymore say something of the sort...'I enjoyed doing this film [with Hugh Grant, I forget which] because women pre-sexual revolution were given much better roles, they had a better share of the wit and dialogue' or similar.

Hi Lilith, haven't been to visit for a while. I loooove anything with Bette Davis. My all time fav film is All about Eve. Whatever Happened to Baby Jane is also very creepy. Even horror-movie fan son (the gorier the better) enjoyed it. He is thinking of making an animated version. He has made an animated version of The Cabinet of Dr Caligari which is on youtube.

Fuchsia! I've seen you lurking about the blogs...:-)

Well done your boy! I just had a look and found a couple. Bette Davis is superb. Another fave is Maureen o hara in The Dark Mirror.
