Weight Lifting
This sport is an Olympic gem. The clip is 12 minutes long. All I can say is that I laughed a lot and ended up with tears in my eyes. Splendid, and not a little insane. The guy lifts something like 39 stone. It's not right. You have to see the very end to see why I got tearful.

Now this is proper stuff. Fastest, furthest, highest, STRONGEST.
Idle will be writing his manifesto for the 2012 games soon and sportsmen like this should be given much more of centre stage than is presently the case.
The synchronised swimming team event is burbling in the background as I write - cunning aquatic choreography but a cynical abuse of the Olympics, might just as well have ballet. If there IS demand for this gibberish, my suggestion will be as a half time show during swimming finals. It isn't a game and it isn't a sport.
The idle folks will arrive shortly and we will be off to Goodwood. Now THERE'S sport.
It is the real thing Idle. Splendid. And it's what I remember from childhood Olympics too.
Have fun at the races :-)
That Mr Bolt from Jamaica is fun to watch too.
Wow Lilith I really enjoyed that, It brought tears to my eyes at the end... Poor man losing his wife so young very sad. A gentle giant indeed!
I agree with Idle about the Syncronised Swimming ...it was done in hollywood movies yonks ago..certainly not a sport in my mind.
BMX bike riding also isn't a sport again IMHO.
Off Topic: Has 'little Lil' made any decisions about what she wants to do next? Lucky girl... The world is her oyster..I wish her wellxx
Di.xx
Lils, marvellous!
I totally agree with you - the last few seconds are one of the most emotional I've seen during the whole games.
Agree with Idle too, synchronised poncing about in the water is a diversion best kept for Opportunity Knocks, or 'End of the pier' stuff.
Also Trubes, I began to quite like the English lass after being a bit cynical about BMX. It took her short interview just before the final, to let me give her the benefit of the doubt as she was clearly a dedicated kid.
Then she fell off...
Great isn't it Trubes?
The Synchro Swimming is a spectacular, not a sport. Of course they have to be fit for it, but so must you be for circus skills. Fabulous, but not sport.
We are all good Trubes. Will post a movie of Pig next. Little Lil is mooching on, with little flurries of activity towards her goals, interspersed with devastating rows with her father. Sigh. But she is having a fun summer in general.
I missed the BMX Scrobs. But I saw the sweet swimmer with her two golds. That was heart warming.
I love the way Steiner bounces about with when he wins! Big Little Boy! Pure Joy!
It won't play over here... it says it's not available in my territory... *sniffss* ;-)
ah well... :-)
he lifted a big heavy thing...
Sorry to hear that Eve :-(
He did, Mutley, he did :-)
it wouldn't let me play it...said it is not available in my area :(
Pooh, Daisy. Try and find a clip of the Olympic weight lifting final. It's worth it ;-)
Yes - the real thing.
Real pain and super-human endeavour. And so sad about his beautiful wife.
I bet you could lift that much with a hangover Kev :-)
