Proud Mummy

champagne

My little girl was driving everybody mad. Not doing her application forms, not doing homework, and generally remaining cheerful. Her aunt suggested she find work at Tescos. I suggested Somerfield.

Somerfield

When everyone was exhausted and losing interest in her academic attitude she sent off some essays, after the deadline. And she has been offered an interview here!

Somerville

So I am posting a picture of us with the last perm I shall ever have. It made my little girl laugh so very hard when I came back from the hairdresser it was worth it.

Me and my Girl, Winter 91, on a VERY windy day.

awwwwww

Yeah perms have always been a bad idea.
You are one of those women that pull off the rare trick of getting even better looking as you get older.
No doubt Mr Beserk feels suitably smug (+:

thats such a sweet picture - and congrats to your daughter - and to you as a long suffering parent too x

Mr. Beserk is hugely smug, thanks Hitch. He hit the jackpot :-)

Well done that Girl!

It's a big day when these invites drop through the letter box. I like the essays being late, because a) they're on top of the pile and b) er; they're not at the bottom of the pile...!

Best of luck Little Girl; Killem Dead!

If that delightful pic typifies your current mood it shows that you have completely recovered from the depression you were suffering from a week or two ago. Many felicitations to your sproglette. We all have our eyes, knees, legs and fingers crossed for success at her interview.

(PS: Try not to use EK's trains when you go to visit her as you never know where you might end up - especially with itinerant wildlife on the lines).

She's so beautiful and well done! I do so hope she gets in - but with a good Mum behind her she has the best start :-)

Congrats Miss Lilith! And it goes to show what an amazing parent you must be!

Tip for Miss Lilith:

The Oxford interviewers are out to intimidate and bully, make sure she knows that so doesn't take it personally.

Congratulations to you all.

lilith...isn't is so nice to have them do something that makes you beam...like you were in the picture...you truly look happy...
on the perm note...i've only had one...no one told me as a teen that italians don't get perms 1-because their hair is naturally wavy 2-because it is very thick...that was information i needed PRIOR to the "perm incident"...my hair was very long (past my butt) and i got a perm...took all day...i wanted to look like dyan cannon (why i don't know but i did and it was the 70's so i am excused all behavior)...
i came home and could not walk through a door without my hair touching all sides...i looked like i had a lion's mane...from the top of my head, my hair stook straight out (like a board was placed on my head - i should have been hit with one prior to the perm)...it was horrendous! but i still get a good chuckle over it...

Lovely photo Lilith. Fingers crossed for daughter. My mum made me have a perm once (that or have my hair cut). The result was a fuzzy mess. She had to iron my hair every time I washed it. Never again.

intimidate & bully

mmmm not sure, Ed, I'd say the interviewers are trying to balance 2 things

(a) top priority, find out whether candidate is the sort of person they will find rewarding & enjoyable to teach on a 1-1 basis for three years. That includes the odd challenging question, but lots else as well

(a) their selections need to be squeaky-clean defensible on the academic side, in case they get challenged on their objectivity & 'fairness' under NuLab social engineering norms

Good luck to her !

On Oxford colleges leading the world I noticed this and thought I'd mention it in passing.

With my curly hair can you believe I too had a perm? Then dyed it orange. We were slaves to fashion Lilith. How's pig? I have a very silly black cat who trys to sit on my keyboard.

Hope your daughter is working harder than me, I'm having great difficulty at the mo knuckling down.

ND I bow to your superior wisdom. I was not cut out for that game.

Hnnn.

Think I might try a perm next.

You smoothie, Hitch :-)

Thanks, Kitty :-)

It is a funny pic Trubes, one of my all time faves. And not because of the tasteful hair do either. The wind was so strong it was making us laugh.

Merms, we have all suffered long ;-) My Girl often gives the impression that it is she that is the long suffering one...She has an amazing withering look, which she has had since very, very little. Piercing blue eyes that speak volumes, endless tolerance and incredulity at her Mother and her Mother's choices. x

Elby, Snogs xxxxxxxxxxx

Scrobs, her tutors were not optimistic that the application would even be looked at, arriving late and all. Talk about skin of teeth. Her dear families were all quite hysterical with surprise and relief and pride on Wednesday.

Thank you GGranny. No, my depression lifted. Nasty stuff.
Contentment is my aim. Blessings counting and all that. I love that pic of the train with the electric sign saying "This train is fucked" on E-K's blog.

Thank you Pip. I think she is gorgeous. Sometimes drops my jaw, prompting her to ask inpatiently "Why are you staring at me?"

Don't know about that Ed, My Girl has always had firm ideas about her education, even if Homework is a concept she has battled with her entire school career. She will have to do some if she is to get the grades required. But perhaps the interview will motivate her. Interview will be her strong suit.

Thanks Lucien, nice to see you x

Daisy, that is a funny image. I can see you have a lot of lush hair so that must have been something else! Do you have a photo? ;-)

Fuchsia, I try to imagine ordering my girl to get a perm or a haircut and can only see the withering blue stare %-I. She does her own, with various results. Bad perms, eh? How we suffered.:-)

Hi Nick. She is unlikely to be intimidated in any event. The problem will not be the interview, as she is very articulate and would be a joy (for some!) to teach. The problem may be in applying herself to get the required grades. But I am so proud she has been asked.

Pip, PHOTO PLEASE ;0!! I don't know how you manage, even without the studies, my dear. You are a determined and strong lady and I have no doubt you will triumph.

Kev, what about a slim plait down your back with what's left? and some beads in the goatee?

Philipa said...

Oh yes Lilith I feel a photo coming on - but if it's going to be an embarassing one I could do no better than one of me in a tutu - all the people who made fun of my being tall and slim are not laughing now are they? Hur hur :-))

I do so hope your babe gets into Oxford - guaranteed smugsville. Like Elby I bet she'll wear it lightly and with style.

My babe stamps her little foot and protests "I am NOT cute" but she's only five.

Daisy - yes, photo?

Lilith said...

Tutu! Tutu! Yes PLEASE PIP!

Lilith said...

Your cute little babe, Pip :-) Mine would do the same but say "I am not a baby goat!" when called a kid. She threatened to leave home if the K word was used by her parents.

Am I the only one who thinks that Lil is actually holding a miniature version of that toast of the Toon Army, Alan Shearer?

I may have to post a lookalike on my blog to prove it.
