This is for you Scroblene! It is one of my Desert Island Discs and now makes me think of you trying to get back from the pub :-)

Scrobs, unfortunately this is where we part musical company. Dire Straights (Not a name for a Hippy to conjure with ;-)). You see, I was 15 when Sultans was playing in every cafe and it just WASN'T COOL. I had already discovered Neil Young by then and so I couldn't understand a guitarist that practised to make his guitar solos SOUND EXACTLY THE SAME EVERY NIGHT...

I love Jerry Garcia, never sounded the same twice, improvised (or rather played with his heart) and hit lots of bum notes.

Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Carlos Santana, Richard Thompson...these are men's guitarists.

Chuck Prophet, Jerry Garcia, Neil Young...they let the romance and passion in.

And I love Neil Young because he sounds like he is fighting with his guitar.
